How Good Can it Be?- The 88
I just found this in my library. It’s from this huge 3 CD mix an old best friend burned me in 8th grade. Before this kind of music I was listening to nothing but Good Charlotte (don’t judge too hard), Green Day and Blink-182 (and I’m still listening to the latter). The girl who burned it for me had this obsessive desire to be emo, which in part meant listening to Sense Fail and Thrice but also I think she was trying to be “2001” on this timeline. Anyway, I think she had a sister or a cousin in New York who was, at the same time, getting her into bands that hadn’t quite made it big yet or at least no one at Ridgely Middle School knew about. So one day she decides she needs to burn me some new music, mostly coming from this New York relative. And that’s how I got into Ben Folds, Death Cab, The Shins, Iron and Wine, and all that other mellow, indie, pop, folk whatever you want to call pretty much every think I still listen to 6 years later (which is a long time for a teenager…).
In case you guys were wondering about the origins of my taste in music.
which I’m sure you weren’t
(she also got me into Garden State)
(In case you were wondering that too)
anyway, this is a good song and it put me in a good mood and a massive nostalgia trip that’s making me want to dig out those CDs again.
